KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Using a five-goal second half, the Castleton University field hockey team completed its Central New York doubleheader sweep by defeating Keuka College 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 7-6 overall, while the Wolves are now 2-8.
Just 36 seconds after a Keuka goal at the 52:04 mark, which tied the contest at 1-1, Casey Traill put the Spartans ahead for good. The freshman received an entry pass from Allison Lowell before putting it across the goal line.
As has been the case with Castleton throughout much of the season, the team was able to put together a string of rapid-fire scores. Twenty-nine seconds after Traill's score, Cydney Jeffrey tallied her sixth goal of the year, putting Castleton up 3-1.
Wrapping up the Spartans first group of goals was Emily Lowell, with her team-high 10th score and 22nd point. She scored in the game's 57th minute.
Allison Lowell started the scoring for Castleton, notching the team's only goal in the first half. It was her fourth of the year and came on a rebound shot, originally attempted by Jeffrey.
The Spartans return to home for conference play at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Field hockey will welcome the Thomas Terriers to Spartan Stadium.
