Hunt & Lowell Score Three As Spartans Slow The Express

AURORA, N.Y. – Led by Emily Lowell's third-career and Gabriella Hunt's first-career hat trick, the Castleton University field hockey team downed Wells College 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Castleton is now 6-6 overall with the win, while the Express fall to 1-10.

Lowell and Hunt along with Cydney Jeffrey got the Spartans off to a scorching hot start. Just under nine minutes into the game, Emily Lowell attacked from the right, received a pass from Sarah Wells across the cage and scored.

It was the first of her three scores during the contest, which marks her second hat trick this season and third of her career.

At the 11:34 mark of the first half, Jeffrey sent a shot in before putting back a rebound to put Castleton up 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Hunt notched her first of the day off an assist from Jeffrey. The latter passed the ball across the circle to the left post where Hunt put it past the goalkeeper.

Aside from the aforementioned goals and scorers, Sarah Wells and Mia Sanborn were credited with the other two Spartan scores. Wells' came at 32:37 of the first off a penalty corner, while Sanborn's was off a breakaway pass from Jeffrey.

In the cage, Leah Holland and Tashia Pashby-Rockwood split time evenly, clocking 35 minutes each. Holland made a save on three opportunities, while Pashby-Rockwood was perfect, stopping four shots.

Castleton continues to play in Central New York at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for another nonconference battle, this time with the Wolves of Keuka College.
