MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Castleton University field hockey team dropped a 12-1 contest at nationally-ranked Middlebury on Wednesday evening. Following the defeat, the Spartans are now 1-2, while the Panthers win their season-opening contest.
Subsequent to a pair of Panther goals to start the contest, Castleton was able to get on the board in the 12th minute of play. Gabriella Hunt led the ball through the zone to her teammate Emily Lowell. The latter was able to then finish the job, scoring the team's only goal on the evening.
Tashia Pashby-Rockwood played all 70 minutes in the cage. The sophomore faced a career-high 33 shots, saving a personal best 21 of them.
Elsewhere, Casey Traill managed a shot against a stifling Middlebury defense.
Field hockey returns to the pitch at 12 p.m. on Saturday, as they host Mt. Holyoke College in their home opener.
