PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Davis Mikell of the Castleton University baseball team earned Little East Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 10. Mikell has now received the top recognition in all three weekly awards this season.
Leading Castleton to a 2-0 weekend, Davis Mikell continued his absolutely scorching start to the season with a 7-for-7 performance at the plate during a doubleheader sweep at Bard College on Saturday. The junior infielder recorded five extra-base hits – three doubles and two triples – during the two contests while earning three walks, driving in four and scoring eight times.
In the opening game – a 13-4 Castleton win – Mikell went 5-for-5 with two doubles and a triple. He scored four runs and drove in two runs. During game two, Mikell picked up two more hits, while earning three walks and scoring four more times.
With a 1.000 batting average, 1.000 on-base percentage and 2.000 slugging percentage, Mikell raised his slash line to .600/.657/.967 through the team's first eight games. In the field, the Williston, Vt. native recorded 13 putouts and one assist in 14 chances.
Baseball returns to action on Thursday as they begin a six-game weekend trip to Newport News, Va. and King's Point, N.Y. The Spartans will face the Builders of the Apprentice School at 5 p.m.
