CASTLETON, Vt. – After playing a significant role in Castleton's fourth consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title and NCAA Tournament appearance, first-year player Davis Mikell has been named Second Team All-New England Region by D3Baseball.com, announced Tuesday by the website.
Mikell occupies one of the starting pitcher slots on the All-Region Second Team after posting a 6-2 record with one save and a 1.64 earned run average. In nine appearances on the mound, including eight starts, Mikell pitched three complete games and totaled 55 innings of work, allowing just 39 hits and 19 walks while striking out a team-high 73 batters. He is currently 17th in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (11.95), 21st in earned run average (1.64), and 33rd in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.38).
The NAC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-NAC selection, Mikell was also a major contributor offensively, hitting .313 with 45 hits, including 10 doubles, two triples, and nine home runs, tied for first in the NAC and tied for 41st in Division III. Playing in all 44 games for the Spartans, Mikell scored 34 runs, drove in 32 runs, drew a team-high 26 walks, and collected eight stolen bases without getting caught.
