LeBeau & Poland Sweep NAC Awards

CASTLETON, Vt. – After leading the Spartans to their third consecutive North Atlantic Conference Championship, Michael LaBeau was honored as the NAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, while Deagan Poland earn NAC Rookie of the Week honors.

LaBeau, the NAC Tournament MVP, was dominant for the Spartans all weekend, having a hand in each of their three wins en route to their third-straight NAC title. The junior posted a 1-0 record with a pair of saves, making all three of his scoreless appearances in crunch time. In the tournament-opener against Thomas, LaBeau worked a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 5-3 win for Castleton and earn the save. On Saturday against Husson, the junior tossed four scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts and earned the win, as Castleton collected a 7-5 victory in a 12-inning battle. In Sunday's championship game against the Eagles, LaBeau worked a scoreless ninth once again, striking out the final batter of the game to give Castleton a 6-5, come-from-behind win. Overall on the week, he posted a 0.00 ERA and five strikeouts in six innings of work while scattering just four hits and one walk.

Poland was phenomenal throughout the entire NAC Championship Tournament, earning All-Tournament honors after batting .467 (7-for-15) and driving in a pair of runs, while scoring three times. In the tournament-opener against Thomas, the rookie was 1-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. In Saturday's marathon win against Husson, Poland went an impressive 5-for-7 with two runs and two RBI. One of his two RBI tied the game in the eighth inning to force extras, in which he earned his second run-scoring single of the day in the 12th to give his squad an insurance run, making it 7-5. In Sunday's NAC Championship Title Game, he was 1-for-4 once more, scoring what turned into the game-winning run for Castleton in a 6-5 victory.
