CASTLETON, Vt. – After hitting .579 this past week to help Castleton close out the regular season with a 29-10 mark and clinch the top seed in the NAC Tournament, freshman Dillon Benham was named the North Atlantic Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced this afternoon.
The freshman appeared in all six games, going 11-for-19 at the plate with four doubles, one triple, four RBIs and seven runs scored. His best performance of the week came in Castleton's 8-4 victory at Lyndon. He went 3-for-3 in that contest with an RBI and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak, which has since been snapped, to 15 games. On the season, Benham's hitting .373 with five doubles, 16 RBIs, 16 runs scored and a .432 on-base percentage.
This marks the second straight week that Benham has been honored by the conference for his stellar play on the field. To view the complete weekly release, click here.
The Spartans are hosting the 2016 NAC Tournament, which will take place on May 6-8 at Castleton University. Castleton faces the fourth-seeded Thomas Terriers on Friday at 9:30 in the opening game, followed by a matchup between the No. 2 Husson Eagles and No. 3 Maine-Farmington Beavers at 12:30 pm.
