CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton baseball will host Military Appreciation Day on Friday, April 29, when the team hosts Lyndon in a doubleheader beginning at 2 pm.
The Spartans will honor the veterans in attendance prior to the first game of the doubleheader, while veteran and local resident George Buddy Taggart will throw out the first pitch of the day. Castleton does not charge admission for baseball games and all veterans are encouraged to attend.
"It means the world that we'll be able to honor veterans and current military members on Friday," said senior shortstop Nick Swim. "Everything we have today is due to the hard work and sacrifices these men and women have made. From the Castleton Baseball team, we want to take the opportunity to say thank you to all military members for serving our country."
The Spartans are currently in the midst of a 16-game win streak to run their record to 24-9 overall and 14-2 in conference play. It is the team's 11th consecutive 20-win season and they are poised to surpass 25 wins for the fifth straight year. Swim is one of six starters batting over .300 and leads the entire conference with a .438 average and 56 hits.
