CASTLETON, Vt. – After sweeping North Atlantic Conference rival Husson and pushing its winning streak to 16 games over the weekend, Castleton baseball's Nick Swim and Dillon Benham were named NAC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Swim extended his hitting streak to 23 games after hitting .500 this past week, as the Spartans finished with a perfect 7-0 record on the week. The senior shortstop went 12-for-24 at the plate, collecting five doubles, one home run, eight RBIs and nine runs scored. He notched five multi-hit games while posting a .567 on-base percentage and .833 slugging percentage. So far this season, Swim leads the conference in batting average (.438), hits (56), and RBIs (39) to go along with 14 doubles, three home runs, 41 runs scored and a 11 stolen bases.
Benham played a pivotal role this week, as the freshman hit .500 overall, going 8-for-16 at the plate with one double, one run scored and seven RBIs. His best performance came in the first game against Husson on Sunday. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Benham ripped an RBI double to tie the game and help send it to extra innings. He made a diving catch in right field with a runner on second to end the eighth, and then in the 12th he drove home the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly for the 3-2 victory. He went 4-for-6 that day with two RBIs in the doubleheader sweep and is currently on a ten-game hitting streak.
This is the third time this season and second week in a row that Swim has been named Player of the Week, while it marks the first time that Benham has been honored. To view the full NAC release, click here.
