CASTLETON, Vt. – After helping the Spartans push their winning streak to nine games this past week, senior Nick Swim and freshman Deagan Poland have been named the North Atlantic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced this afternoon.
Swim pushed his hitting streak to 16 games this week, as the Spartans improved to 17-9 on the season. The senior shortstop hit .667 on the week with 14 hits, four doubles, one grand slam, 16 RBIs and nine runs scored. He also posted a .667 on-base percentage with two walks, one sacrifice fly and two stolen bases. On the season, Swim is leading the NAC in batting average (.423), hits (44) and RBIs (30) to go along with 13 extra-base hits, two home runs, eight stolen bases and 32 runs scored.
Poland, meanwhile, hit .412 this week in the leadoff spot to help the squad record wins over Colby-Sawyer and No. 19 Amherst. The freshman went 7-for-17 at the plate with two doubles, four RBIs and 11 runs scored. He also recorded five walks, two hit-by-pitches, two sacrifice hits and posted a .500 on-base percentage. So far this year, Poland is hitting .293 on the year with four doubles, five RBIs, 11 walks and 20 runs scored.
