CASTLETON, Vt. – After helping the Spartans complete a four-game sweep over Maine-Farmington this past weekend, freshman Charles Stapleford was named the Corvias ECAC Rookie of the Week, as announced this afternoon.
Stapleford delivered, arguably, his best performance of the season to help Castleton take down Maine Farmington in game two of the four-game set, 8-0. The freshman went the distance in his third win of the year, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball with just four hits allowed and seven strikeouts. On the season, Stapleford holds a 3-1 mark with a team-leading 1.57 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 23 innings of work.
This marks the first time in Stapleford's career that he has received recognition from the ECAC following a week in which he was named the NAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.
The Spartans return to action with a home-and-home series against Colby-Sawyer slated for Wednesday and Thursday. Castleton will travel to New London, N.H. to play the opening two games on Wednesday before hosting the Chargers the following day to close out the series.
